The Creation of the Mastrantonio Brand and its Sub-Brands

The Mastrantonio brand was created in 1996.   The aim was to create a brand that would be synonymous with food service of the highest order.

The foodservice function as described includes a number of activities in what are essentially different sectors of the food industry.   This led to the creation of sub-brands to the Mastrantonio brand.   Each of these sub-brands communicate a different activity within the “foodservice” industry while retaining a clear link to the Mastrantonio brand.

The Mastrantonio brand is the key link to various companies which form “Gruppo Mastrantonio”.  These companies perpetuate the Mastrantonio name and trade mark.   The company’s’ activities include manufacturing, sourcing and promotion of high quality food products;  both imported and locally made.   These products and services are marketed and distributed under the Mastrantonio name brand throughout the Republic of South Africa with plans to then develop markets internationally.

The group operations include the franchising of restaurant outlets throughout South Africa.   As a result the employees that work under brands associated with Mastrantonio number more than 500.

Of the employees referred to and employed by the various companies and close corporations linked to the Mastrantonio brand, a total of over 80%  are drawn from the previously disadvantaged communities.

Accordingly, the various companies are already providing vast employment opportunities to South Africans of all races.   The philosophy of the companies has at all times been to source, train and develop South Africans so as to ensure that they are able to fulfil the various roles required in any food business, namely kitchen skills, restaurant, bar and waitering skills, and general restaurant and business management skills.
